  • Humantay Laggon trek 1 day

    full day
    2 - 10 persons

You will be enthralled by the view of the Humantay Lagoon!
The multicoloured shades, which can be seen on its banks in accordance with the brightness of the Sun and overall weather, will make you feel like in Wonderland, where you will not like the day to end!

During the Cusco – Lagoon Humantay trek, you will admire the spectacular views of the surrounding snowy peaks Mt Salkantay (6,271 m/20,574 ft) and Mt Humantay (5,473 m/ 17,956 ft). The lagoon lies at the foothill of the latter at the altitude of 4,200 m.a.s.l. (13,780 f.a.s.l.). It is formed by the glacier water melted from the mountain. Its turquoise colour is very special due to the mineral wealth that the lake has got.

Let´s visit the lagoon, placed north-west of Cusco, and enjoy this visual spectacle together!

We pick you up very early at 4:30 am from your hotel as a long ride awaits us. On the way, we pass through Limatambo, a place of warm weather and abundance of fruits to later turn towards Mollepata. Before arriving there, we have two stops. Firstly, we visit Marca Wasi, a viewpoint and an archaeological centre with Inca Andean terraces and a variety of crops. Secondly, we make a short stop at the “Hacienda del Mirador”, which is a property of the former Peruvian president David Samanes Ocampo (governing between 1930-1931).

Afterwards, we continue till we get to the village of Mollepata (2,900 m/9,514 ft). The village is owing its name to the quantity of plantations of “mole” (Schinus mole, also known as Peruvian peppertree). We are served American breakfast (eggs upon request, homemade breads, a fruit salad, fresh juices, tea, etc.) at the restaurant “La Casa Salkantay” offering beautiful views. Then, we continue towards Soraypampa while observing ecosystem changes. At Soraypampa (3,850 m/12,631 ft), we perform a small ceremony for “Apus” (mountain deities) before starting to trek.

When we reach the Humantay Lagoon (4,200 m/13,780 ft), we are given some time off to be able to appreciate the stunning turquoise lagoon and take some pictures of it. The lagoon is situated at the foothill of the Humantay Mountain (5,473 m/ 17,956 ft). After a brief rest, we begin returning to Soraypampa where our vehicle awaits us to bring us back to Mollepata. There, we are served a Creole style lunch followed by a weaving demonstration and a guided visit of “Hacienda Museo” (Hacienda Museum) at Casa Mollepata (the Mollepata House). Later on, we get on the vehicle again to ride back to Cusco arriving there at about 5 pm. The Cusco – Lagoon Humantay trail finishes by transporting you back to your hotel when you are said good-bye.
